Second Book of Kings, simply Second Kings or 2nd Kings, is the twelfth book of the Old Testament (and of the Bible). The book chronicles the events that took place between the time of King Ahaziah's death[1] and King Jehoiachin of Judah being released from his prison in Babylon.[2]

Elijah is taken up into heaven, and Elisha becomes a prophet to Israel in his place. Jehu son of Jehoshaphat destroys Jezebel and the house of Ahab and becomes king of Israel. The two kingdoms are seen as continually getting worse in God's eyes and are eventually taken away into captivity: the Assyrians conquer the northern kingdom of Israel, and then later the Babylonians conquer the southern kingdom of Judah.
