The Book of Joel starts with saying that the Word of the LORD came to Joel who was the son of Pethuel.[1] The LORD told Joel that a lot of locusts were going to destroy all of Israel's crops,[2] which was their main source of food. He calls the elders and all the people to fast. God wants them to not rend their clothes, but their hearts.[3] In the end, though, he speaks of future blessings to those who trust in Yahweh[4].
