Bernice was the oldest daughter of Herod Agrippa I, who ruled Palestine A.D. 37-44.[1]
According to Josephus, who was an historian who lived during the first century, Bernice was married to a man named Marcus and later to her uncle Herod, king of Chalcis, who soon afterward died.
She later married Polemo, king of Cilicia, but deserted him. She traveled to Jerusalem and lived with Herod Agrippa II. That's when Paul made his defense before him;[2] 26:30).
History tells us Bernice eventually became the mistress of Titus, who commanded the Roman army against the Jews, and destroyed Jerusalem in A.D.70, and later became emperor.
The name Bernice means "victorious."
