Asshur (Person) is found in the Old Testament

This article is about son of Shem. You may be looking for the city or the son of Jacob.

Asshur (also spelled: Ashur) was the second named son of Shem;[1] his grandfather was Noah.[2] Asshur is credited with having built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah and Resen,[3] although the context of the passage credits this to him may actually be crediting these cities to Nimrod.

Asshur's family is not known of well. The Bible speaks of his ancestors and brothers (along with their descendants) but no information of his own children. His father was Shem, the son of Noah.[4] His uncles were Ham and Japheth; his brothers were Elam, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

Asshur's wife and mother, including daughter-in-laws and all other female relatives, are not mentioned by name, only assumed to exist due to logical reasons. The exception to this would be his mother and grandmother, who are said to exist but no name is given. All other female relatives are not mentioned.
